Training Camp in Los Angeles – Key Insights from the Olympic Venue

From June 24 to July 24, I had the opportunity to complete an intensive training camp in Los Angeles—at the future venue for the 2028 Olympic Games.

After a difficult period marked by illness, I was finally able to resume consistent training in June and build up my fitness step by step. This made it possible to once again log high-quality sessions on the water and work on my technical and physical form.

The time spent at the Olympic venue was incredibly valuable. Getting to know the different conditions and gaining experience on the race course will be crucial in the future. These insights will help us set specific training priorities for the coming years and prepare optimally for the Olympic Games.

A particular highlight was the North American Championship, the first of two regattas in Los Angeles. In mostly light wind conditions, I was able to celebrate my first podium finish in a full elite field. This result confirms that, after my health setbacks, I’m back on the right track.

At the same time, it’s encouraging to see that my decisions on the water are sound and that my strengths in light winds are still there.

The Sailing Grand Slam event marked the conclusion of the season. After several weeks of intense training, I still lacked the necessary fitness to achieve a top result in the significantly stronger wind conditions. Nevertheless, I’m taking important insights from this regatta as well, and now know even more precisely what we need to work on in the coming months.

I’m returning with a wealth of valuable experience, renewed motivation, and the knowledge that we’re on the right track.
